The Company engages in onshore oil and gas exploration and production in Australia and the United Kingdom and has four major focus areas. Three of these are for conventional oil and gas:
- The Amadeus Basin in central Australia,
- The Cooper-Eromanga Basins in central Australia, and
- The Weald-Wessex Basins in southern England,
Whilst the fourth is focused on exploring for coal seam gas (CSG),
- The Maryborough Basin in eastern Australia.
Magellan’s growth strategy is to actively seek new exploration and acquisition opportunities, principally in two of its core areas, the Cooper-Eromanga Basin of Australia and the Weald-Wessex Basins of southern UK, to augment its proven and probable reserves of 18 million barrels and its annual sales of 1.5 million barrels of oil equivalent.
